My topic for English 1311:
My topic for English 1311 is local music. The reason why I chose this topic is because I love local music,  its something I support, and I have a passion for it. I love to showcase artists and bands at my venue, so I decided to discuss local music. Local Music would include any local musicians in El Paso, any local venues (places where shows and concerts are held), or simply local fans who support local music. I plan on researching what I can learn about El Paso's local music, it's history and ways to promote the it's scene even more. This semester I intend on visiting venues, writing and sharing my thoughts and opinions about local music issues, and what I hope the El Paso Local Music scene will become.

About me: The page creator Jesse Nelson

I love local music and especially the local music scene in El Paso, Texas. My goal is to see El Paso turn into a city and community who supports it's local talent. I want to be the "communicator" in the city, and the source for people to turn to about El Paso's music. Without the communication and spreading the word of the local music scene, El Paso's talent will not be showcased to it's full potential.

A friend once said, "Some people go out and use drugs. Some people go out to parties and drink. I go to shows. This is what I do." When my friend said that around me, I realized that quote was the lifestyle I live too. Not only has local music given me something I can rely on for a good time; it has given me an alternative lifestyle away from drugs, alcohol and partying. One thing I use as an "escape" from my surroundings is Music, while other people seem to find the necessity of getting intoxicated. Most of my heroes are musicians, because they provide me my escape routes. I find that music defines me and is a way to express myself. Music means so much to me that I base my activities and time around music and the local music scene. I enjoy going to  shows and hosting shows at my venue, Bethel Family Ministries. A team of us; Geoff McElhatten, Daniel Kerr and I all host shows at Bethel. Currently I am not in a band, but that doesn't mean I can't support local music. I have learned that anyone can help with anything when it comes to local music. Without community members getting involved, the local music scene cannot grow. Get involved, support local music.
